AcademicsIn an Atmosphere of Discipline
The Basics...A liberal arts curriculum gives you "the basics." People who can think logically, and who can express their ideas clearly, are sought out by every college and business. At McAuley, we give our students the tools to succeed in whatever profession they choose. McAuley offers a liberal arts, college-preparatory curriculum. We also have a business program that provides students with marketable skills immediately upon graduation. Students can choose from four years of English, Math, Science and Social Studies, as well as three years of study in a foreign language. The Mercy Values, women's leadership, and multicultural issues are addressed throughout the curriculum. Because McAuley is a small school, we are very sensitive to our students' individual needs. We are able to give anyone the extra help they need to succeed. McAuley students also benefit from the following programs:
Discipline and Professionalism...Without order in the classroom, learning is impossible. That's why we maintain an atmosphere of discipline, respect, and professionalism. Combined with our small size, this creates a safe environment in which young women can grow and learn.
Accreditation...Catherine McAuley High School is a registered high school with the Board of Regents of the University of the State of New York and the Office of Catholic Education of the Diocese of Brooklyn. In 1991, Catherine McAuley High School earned the title "Nationally Recognized School of Excellence" from the United States Department of Education. Awarded to less than 2% of all secondary schools in the country, its purpose is to "identify and recognize outstanding public and private schools across the nation." McAuley proved to be exemplary in the areas of instruction, discipline, parent and community involvement, extracurricular activities, and leadership. Our students, teachers, staff, and administrators earn this "Blue Ribbon" distinction by striving for excellence every day. In Brooklyn and Queens, Catherine McAuley stands out as the only all-girls' Catholic high school to have earned this prestigious award.
