Do you think McAuley is the school for you ?

Are you wondering what McAuley is really like ?

Read this student’s message from the

"Stepping Up" Ceremony for the Class of 2006

to learn more about the McAuley experience!

Good evening parents, teachers and my fellow senior sisters. What does it mean to me to be standing here in front of you tonight? When I first came to McAuley I remember being a little bit sad because it was an all-girls’ school and I had never been to one before and I was thinking how was I ever going to survive in a school full of girls.

However, on my first day at McAuley, I saw that I had nothing to fear because I was quickly engulfed into a friendship with Abby, my friend for four years. She told me her whole life story on that first day and she made me feel very comfortable and at home. It was not only her alone; during the very first week I got to know many of the girls here and had no problems making friends and fitting in. Throughout my four years here, each and every girl has helped to mold and shape me into the young woman that I am today. When I wanted to try something, they did not put me down; instead they had my back and gave me the courage and strength that I needed when I felt like giving up. Because of my McAuley sisters I have done things that I never thought that I would be able to do before, like becoming a cheerleader and joining an art club when I swore that would be two of the last things I’d ever do. As I stand before you tonight, I feel nothing but joy and happiness because I have had the pleasure of sharing four years of my life with these beautiful young women who I will always remember and cherish. I want to wish you the best of luck and tell you that I am very proud to be stepping up with the Class of 2006.

This is an important time in your life and in our world. At McAuley, we can make it the best ever for you! Our multicultural world needs women leaders. With the McAuley experience, you can be one of those leaders!

Current Eighth Graders seeking Admission to the Ninth Grade

The Test for Admission into Catholic High Schools will be given on
Saturday, November 10, 2007.  The test is called "TACHS."

What time of year is it?

September - November

The TACHS is given at Catherine McAuley and other Catholic high schools on a Saturday morning.  This year, it will be given on Saturday, November 10, 2007.   Eighth grade students can register for the TACHS in several ways:

  • Get a copy of the brochure "Choosing a Catholic High School in Brooklyn or Queens" from your local Catholic school or church.
  • Teachers in Catholic elementary schools distribute this information to eighth graders.
  • Guidance Counselors in NYC Public schools usually have information about the Catholic high schools and the TACHS.
  • Apply early!  You will have a better chance of being assigned to a test site of your choice.

December - February

Acceptance letters based on the TACHS are sent in late January.  The mailing date this year is January 17, 2008.  If you didn't take the TACHS, please call to schedule an appointment for an admissions test.  If you have any questions about the application process, please call McAuley at 718-462-7282 or send an email to admissions@mcauleybrooklyn.org.

March - August

Registration for students entering ninth grade in September begins on the first Wednesday in March.  The earlier you register, the better!  Late registrations cannot guarantee appropriately sized classes.  If the student took the TACHS and received an acceptance letter from McAuley, they can register and take a placement test.  The registration fee of $250 is not refundable.

If a student did not take the TACHS, she may take an admissions test.  These admissions tests and late placement tests are usually given on Wednesday afternoons.   Please call to schedule an appointment at your convenience.

  • At any time of year, please call Catherine McAuley High School for assistance with the High School  application process.
Our phone number is 718-462-7282.  You can also send an email to
    admissions@mcauleybrooklyn.org. Good Luck !!!

     Transfer students

Students wishing to transfer into an upper grade at McAuley should call to schedule an admissions interview.  Please bring a transcript of all high school courses with you to the interview.
