McAuleyans of the late 1980's and early 1990's might
remember Sister Karen Schneider, R.S.M. who taught Mathematics.
S. Karen earned her Medical Degree at SUNY Downstate and has worked in the
Pediatric Emergency Room at Johns Hopkins Hospital. S. Karen also
leads "medical missions" to Peru, Haiti and Guyana. Keep up the great
work, S. Karen! We at McAuley are proud of you.

"Indoda Entsha" took to the McAuley
Stage and performed for the student body. Leader Preston Riddick described
McAuleyans as one of the most enthusiastic audiences he has seen in a long time.

A New Look For Rooms 14, 15 & the Science Lab
The room where thousands of McAuleyans learned to type is now a networked
computer lab! Congress recently approved funding for computer networking and
internet access for schools and libraries. As a result, McAuley was able to renovate
Room 14. Room 14 was a large classroom, double the size of most of the other
classrooms. A new wall was built dividing the room in half and on one side of it are
24 networked Pentium 4's with internet access. All ninth grade students take a
computer course where they learn the Microsoft Office Suite: Word, Excel, and
Access. They also use e-mail and access the internet for academic research.
Elective computer courses in Web Page Design and Desktop Publishing are available to
eleventh and twelfth graders.
We thought that building this new wall was an original idea until we
looked at the school's blueprints. This "new" wall was actually part of
the architect's plan! We hold in our heart the many women who have passed through
this room, especially the Sisters of Mercy who instructed them in the skills needed for
employment.
